The Influence of Singing Activities on The Linguistic Development of Mentally Retarded Children

Abstract

The study which survey of a mentally retarded children, 6-7 years of age, who have an early education at the selltement house is about inf1uence of singing activities on the lingustic development of mentally retarded children. The way of study make progress over the twelve weeks as once a week which a section is 40-minutes. Activity plan has music that children likes and be able to induce physical recognition or expression etc. For more concrete observation, 1 conduct a preliminary inspection using the diagnosis scale for developmental disabiliteis and choose qualitative way of study that record and analysis after video recording when they act. As a result of music therapy, each child become an appreciable increase of linguistic development, especially linguistic empression. And it support that process of reception, recoguition, expression through melody is effective. It was showed specific development that "Babble" was occasio-nally appeared in inflection or had plenty, also breath had lengthen. Through this study, 1 proved that music
